Getting a new smile shouldn’t feel like a guessing game. At Stone Ridge Family Dentistry, you’ll find real answers and care you can count on, especially when deciding between dental implants and dentures. Our team knows how to keep things simple, guiding you through every step so you know everything you need to know.
A dental implant has three components. First, a titanium post is placed into your jawbone, where your missing tooth used to be. Over time, the implant will fuse with your jawbone, locking it into place. This strong foundation can support a bridge, crown, or dentures.
Once your implant is healed, the two other components—an abutment and a porcelain crown—come into play.
Most healthy adults with healthy, strong jawbones can get dental implants. Your gums also need to be in good shape. The best way to know is to book a consultation with our doctors. They will take a close look at your situation and tell you if implants are the right move for you.
There are lots of great benefits implants offer over other tooth replacements, including:
Implants can fill the gap, whether you’re missing one tooth or a whole row. You can have a single crown for one or several implants to support a bridge. You can even replace your entire smile using implants to hold dentures in place. They fit into your life for whatever your smile needs.
You will first undergo a thorough examination and consultation to begin the process. After this, we will refer you to an oral surgeon who will place a titanium post into your jawbone. This post will bond with the bone over a healing period of three to six months. Once this period is complete, you will return to our office, where we will finalize your implant process by placing a crown, bridge, or implant-supported dentures.
If you brush two times a day and floss once, you’re already off to a great start. Keep up with your twice-a-year cleanings and check-ups at Stone Ridge Family Dental. Caring for your implant is the same as caring for your natural teeth.
The recovery process after implant surgery typically takes a couple of weeks. It is common to experience mild soreness and some swelling during this time. You will need to follow a soft-food diet for a while. Ice packs and over-the-counter pain relief medication are usually sufficient to manage any discomfort. It is important to adhere to your personalized aftercare plan for the best results.
If it’s time for a big change in your smile, Stone Ridge Family Dental has just what you need—call (703) 570-1356 to schedule a consultation. Nothing fits, feels, or lasts like a dental implant done right.
